Climate System

This system is key to basically everything in the game, plants, wildlife and factions all depend on it to survive and hopefully thrive, if climate conditions are not right plants, wildlife and faction entities(citizens, soldiers, domesticated animals) will die, everything needs different conditions so you need to find the right spot with the right balance to thrive in all aspects.

The system is split into multiple part that all effect each other and make up the climate condition requirements of entities, those values are:

  • Surface Water - represent the top layer of water, created from waterbodies and rivers, flows with the terrain, carries salt when moving, turns to ground water if ground is drier than the surface, evaporates(turn to clouds) with relation to temperature and wind, when evaporating lowers air and ground temperature.

  • Ground Water - represent the bottom layer of water, flows with the terrain at a slower rate, turns to surface water when surface is drier than ground.

  • Clouds - represent water in the air, moves with the wind, slowly turns into surface water, cold air temperatures force water out of clouds into surface water, when clouds rain they heat up the air temperature.

  • Salinity - represents salt or minerals, created from waterbodies marked as salty, destroyed by fresh waterbodies and rain.

  • Wind - represents wind direction and strength, created and effected from terrain elevation and air temperature difference.

  • Air Temperature - represents the higher layer of air temperature, created from clouds blocking solar radiation, moves with the wind, tries to reach equilibrium with ground by heat exchange.

  • Ground Temperature - represents the ground and lower layer of air temperature, effected by geothermal map, moves with ground water, tries to reach equilibrium with air by heat exchange.
