Citizen System

Your citizens are one of the most important resources in your kingdom (but don't let 'em know it or they'll wanna get paid!), they are your physical and intellectual workforce, they move the local economy and can be recruited into your royal army.

Your citizens are not directly controlled but their behavior can be influenced by a variety of ways:

  • laws & regulations - you can set certain rules that effect all aspects of your kingdom, from construction regulation (increase build & maintenance cost but lowers chance of accidents, fires, etc) to narcotics bans* (increases average health but lowers average happiness, generally)

  • healthcare - providing your citizens with a healthcare service makes them live longer, catch less diseases and increase average happiness

  • education - educated citizens work more efficiently, can work at more sophisticated jobs, commit less crime, increases health but lowers happiness

  • work - besides providing you with a workforce, a job provides a citizen with income and something to do, without it citizens may leave your kingdom or become criminals

*narcotics ban effects depend on what's banned, that's all I'm gonna say at this point ;)

Citizens have needs, hunger, energy, health & warmth are critical needs - if any one of them drops to zero the citizen dies.
happiness and education are important too for a productive life.

  • hunger - citizens get hungry and need to be fed, different foods have different qualities, the lowest quality restores hunger but lowers both happiness and health, the highest quality restores hunger and increases happiness and health

  • energy - citizens get tired and need a house to sleep in every day or they get sad and unhealthy, better house quality contributes to happiness, health & warmth. houses also provides storage for items such as food, clothing and luxuries for residents to access on demand without visiting a shop/public storage(depending on laws and regulations)

  • health - low health makes citizens more prone to catch diseases and die at a younger age, very high health increases fertility rates and contributes to happiness

  • warmth - citizens need to stay warm, if they are too cold/hot for too long they'll die, you can make cloths of various qualities to combat harsh weather conditions

  • happiness - makes citizens immigrate/emigrate to/from your city, happy people can pay a lot of tax without complaining, poor citizens that can't leave because of laws may become hostile and rebel against you

  • education - increases work productivity and health, citizens can educate themselves at a library, a school and gain experience on the job

Citizens can become unhappy if they are very poor/unhealthy, without a job/house, if the rules in the kingdom are harsh and many other factors, unhappy citizens may become criminals or leave you kingdom.

Citizens can immigrate/emigrate between different kingdoms if they are unhappy with their current ruler, unless forbidden in the kingdom they are leaving or trying to enter.
